5 tips for keeping your data secure

Of course, at AgroVision, we make every effort to keep your data safe. We describe how we achieve this in the article “How does AgroVision keep your data safe?”. But what measures can you, as a customer, take to make your data even more secure? These measures mainly involve managing your password. By keeping your password secure, you reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your system, automatically making your data safer. Below, we explain how to keep your password as secure as possible.

Change your password regularly

First and foremost, it is important to change your password regularly. This makes your password more difficult to hack. If you always use the same password or use it on multiple programs or websites, there is a greater chance that hackers could gain access to all your data in one go. It is regularly in the news that (big) companies got hacked and passwords were stolen. You can check yourself if your password ever has been stolen, by filling in your email on https://haveibeenpwned.com/.

Choose a long password

The longer the password, the better. Short passwords are easier to decipher, because a hacker needs less attempts to guess the correct password. Always try to set a longer password with different types of characters, such as letters, numbers, and punctuation. Then, securely store the password in a safe place.

Do not share the password with third parties

Never share your password with other parties. To share your data, it is not necessary to give away your password, so refrain from doing so.

Regularly check with whom you share your data

You may have shared your data with an advisor some time ago, but this advisor has not provided services to you for a while. It is important to revoke permission when it is no longer desired. This keeps your data as private as possible and minimizes the number of people who can access your information. Therefore, regularly check with whom your data is shared and revoke permissions that are no longer desired.

Use a password manager

Last but not least, use a password manager. Since it is important to use long, strong passwords and unique passwords for each program/website, it can be challenging to remember them all. A password manager is a digital vault where you can store all your passwords and usernames. This way, you won’t forget them. When you want to log in, the password manager will automatically fill in your username and password. Additionally, this password manager also generates long, strong passwords for you. So, you don’t have to be creative every time you need a new one – quite convenient!
